YOUR TIME IS LIKE MONEY!

Your time is like money. Your time is very precious for you. Once you spend it, it will never come back to you. Hence, you have to utilize it properly; you have to manage it wisely; and you have to invest it in your growth and progress.

Time is very slow for those who wait.

Very fast for those

 Who are scared.

Very long for those

Who lament.

Very short for those

Who celebrate.

But for those who love,

Time is eternal.

                                          ---William Shakespeare

What is the importance of time in your life?

Time is the most important resource of your life. Without time, you can’t do anything. Without time, you can’t achieve anything in your life. It is only the time that will decide your growth, development, progress and success in your life. You must know how to utilize and manage your time properly.

You will never buy your time; you will never borrow your time. You will never get more than 24 hours in a day. Everybody gets only 24 hours in a day, whether they are rich or poor, whether they are successful celebrities or business tycoons; whether they are millionaires or billionaires. You have to do everything in this allotted 24 hours.

“An inch of time is an inch of gold, but you can’t buy that inch of time with an inch of gold.”

                                                               ---Chinese Proverb

“Time I am, the great destroyer of the world, and I have come here to destroy all people. With the exception of you (the Pandavas), all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.”

                                                                                              ---Bhagwad Gita

The above verse from the Bhagwad Gita advises you:

• Time is the great destroyer of everything in this world.

• Everything will perish with time.

• Nobody will remain untouched by time.

• Nobody can escape from time, whether rich or poor; whether king or beggar; whether warriors or soldiers.

• Time will disclose and reveal every secret and mystery of this world.

• Time will decide your birth and death; happiness and sorrows; success and failures.

• Time is a great power.

• It is moving at its pace.

• Nobody can stop it.

• Nobody can hold it.

• Nobody can control it.

• It will never wait for anyone.

• You can only manage yourself according to time.

“Time devours the beings and destroys the creation. It remains active even when the beings are asleep. No one can check its incessant flow. (Time is all powerful and ever active. Its ruthless counting continues even if we may be sleep or not conscious. No one can check its flow. All are helpless before time).

                                                                       ---Chanakya Neeti

Anecdote:

A Sadhu (monk) used to sit at the side of river bank. He would sit there whole day, muttering and shouting in loud voice from time to time, “You will get whatever you want.”

People passing by would think of him as insane. They would listen to him and laugh at him.

One day an unemployed youth was passing by and voice of that Sadhu reached his ears, “You will get whatever you want.”

Hearing this sentence, the young man came to Sadhu and asked him, “Will I be able to get whatever I want. Can you really give me what I want? ”

The Sadhu replied, “Yes, but first tell me what do you want?”

“I want to become a big diamond dealer one day. Can you fulfill my wish?” spoke the young man.

“Of course, I will give you a diamond and a pearl. Make as many diamonds and pearls as you want,” spoke the Sadhu.

After listening to the Sadhu, light of hope shone in the eyes of young man.

Then, the Sadhu asked him to extend both his palms. The young man put his palms in front of the Sadhu.

The Sadhu placed his hand on one of his palms and said, “Son, this is the most precious diamond in this world. This is called ‘TIME.’ Hold it tightly in your fist. With this you can make as diamonds as you want. Don’t ever let it out of your hands.”

Then, the Sadhu placed his other hand on the other palm of young man and said, “Son, this is the most precious pearl in the world. This is called ‘PATIENCE’. When the desired result is not achieved even after spending time in any work, then wear this pearl called patience. If you have this pearl with you, you can achieve whatever you want in this world.”

The young man carefully listened to the Sadhu and thanked him and left. He got two Mantras to achieve success.

At that moment, he decided that he would never waste his time and would always work with patience.

After sometime, he started working with a big diamond merchant. In few years, he learned every trick of business diligently and one day, realizing his dream with his hard work and perseverance, he himself became a big diamond trader.

What is the moral of this story?

Never let your time go to waste and don ’t give up on patience in difficult times. Success will definitely come.

Do you know, what is the biggest difference between a successful man and an unsuccessful man?

The successful man:

• He utilizes his precious time in constructive and innovative things.

For instance, he utilizes his precious time in setting new business and upgrading his earning sources.

• He manages his valuable time in both his personal life as well as his professional life.

For instance, he spends his valuable time with his family. And he also manages his job/profession well.

• He invests his priceless time in his personal growth, development and enlightenment.

For instance, he invests his priceless time in reading good books, acquiring wisdom, knowledge and information; learning new arts and crafts; and developing new hobbies.

The unsuccessful man:

• He spends his precious time in destructive and non-productive things.

For instance, he spends his precious time in smoking, drinking and gambling.

• He spends his priceless time in gossiping and arguments.

For instance, he spends his priceless time in social networking sites, chatting and gathering.

• He spends his valuable time in merry making and fun and feast.

For instance, he spends his valuable time in outing and late-night parties and celebrations.

Don’t spend your precious time, but utilize, manage and invest your valuable time.

Many people just spend their precious time, but they never utilize, manage and invest their time in productive things. That ’s the main reason why they always fall short of time and they always complain about time.

If you have no time to do anything, then you will never get time to work, and consequently you will never get any fruitful result in the end.

On the other hand, if you know how to utilize your precious time; if you know how to manage your precious time; and if you know where to invest your precious time, then your time will give you a great reward in the end.

No Time→ No Work →No Result → No Progress

How can you utilize your precious time for your success?

• Follow the simple formula: early to bed and early to rise.

• Start the day well.

• Know your goals.

• Organize yourself.

• Don’t waste your time in gossiping and idleness.

• Set reminders for all your tasks.

• Plan every day.

• Focus on the most significant tasks first.

• Keep yourself from the distractions, such as phone calls, email messages, and social networking sites.

• Identify your short-time goals and long-term goals.

• Use the 80/20 rule. *

• Break your tasks into smaller pieces.

• Make fewer decisions.

• Focus on your quality work rather than quantity.

• Schedule yourself.

• Avoid multitasking.

• Make your own datelines.

• Learn to say, when to say Yes/No.

• Don’t procrastinate.

• Always be productive.

* What is the 80/20 rule? How can you apply it in your life?

The 80/20 rule is also known as the Pareto principle or the law of the vital few, which basically means that in many events 80% 0f the effects come from 20% of the causes.

The Pareto principle name came from the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who discovered the principle after realizing that approximately 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population, and he had observed the same pattern in other different situations.

20% Efforts = 80% Results

80% Efforts =20% Results

For examples:

• 80% of problems originate from 20% of projects.

• 80% of value is achieved with the first 20% of effort.

• 80% of the results are caused by 20% of thinking and planning.

• 80% of family problems are caused by 20% of the issues.

• 80% of retail sales are produced by 20% of a store brands.

• 80% of website traffic comes from 20% of the content.

Steps to apply the 80/20 rule in your life:

• Identify all your daily/weekly/monthly works.

• Identify your key works.

• Identify the works that give you maximum return.

• Brainstorm how you can reduce or transfer the works that give you minimum return.

• Create a plan to do more that brings you more value or more result.

• Use 80/20 to prioritize any task you are working on.

• Set a plan to focus on works that produce the maximum results.

“Don’t waste your time in anger, regrets, worries, and grudges. Life is too short to be unhappy.”
