In
a corn field not far from the woods, two boys found a partridge's nest and they
managed to capture the female, who was sitting on the eggs.
The
bigger boy said: “You take the eggs and I shall keep the partridge. The eggs
are worth the same as the bird.”
“If
it is as you say,” replied the younger, “give me the bird and keep the eggs
yourself!”
So
they commenced to argue and to scuffle. During the argument the elder boy let
of the partridge and the younger, not realizing what he was doing let go of the
eggs and they broke on the ground. Thus both of them at the end of the day the
same reward- nothing!
Be
not first to quarrel,
Nor
last to make it up.
