“How
wonderful it would be were the sun to shine forever!” said a group of children
one dark and rainy day. Their desire was soon realized, because, when the sun
came out again it shone for several months and never once was there a sign of
the smallest cloud. The drought caused much damage to the fields and the crops.
In the garden the flowers and the grass dried up, and there remained but dry
twigs.
“Now
you see,” said their mother, “the rain is as necessary as the sun. Learn from
this wise ruling of the Lord that even for us, who are human creatures, it
would not be gift if we always had happy and joyful days. To be able to grow up
into mature persons every so often you must learn to support even the days of
sadness, of suffering and misfortune.”
Life’s
made up of smiles and tears,
Joys
and sorrows mixed with fears;
And
though to us it seems one-sided
Trouble
is pretty well divided.
