Art of Listening

Listening is a forgotten art. Shakespeare said,"Give many thy ear but few thy tongue." Most of us merely hear, we do not listen. Oxford dictionary says listen means to hear with thoughtful attention. We are in fact miles away, lost in another world when in conversation with friends, and colleagues.


A good conversationalist is also a good listener. Showing an active interest in what other person is saying and listening is important. While listening to a person concentrate on the subject. A manager who listens to is in a better position to take correct decisions.


According to experts the benefits of mastering listening range from learning new things to developing deeper relationships.

  A businessman was returning home on horseback from the annual fair in a nearby city. He had quite a big sum of money with him. It was raining heavily and the poor man was wet to the skin. He was in a bad mood and grumbled that God had given him such terrible weather for his journey. He entered a thick forest. All of a sudden, to his horror, he found himself face to face with a bandit whose finger was already on the trigger of his gun. FAITH CAN DO MIRACLES

                             A learned scholar of the village was holding a discourse from the verandah of his house. There was a large gathering intently listening to his speech. The theme was the Omkara manthra.   “If you keep on chanting Aum with implicit faith, you can even perform miracles. Why, crossing a river will be just child’s play! Go on chanting aum and you’ll be able even to walk on water!” He paused for a few moments to look at the faces of the people in the congregation. They were looking at each other in wonderment.
